Lady And The Tramp

There's something supremely sexy about driving a red car. I don't know if it’s the color or the feeling that you get while careening down a long stretch of road, hair whipping in the wind, catching the occasional glaze of an onlooker. Red cars have the power to not only own the road, but the heart of the person driving it. This is true with me and my little red bug- I love her so much, I named her Lady.

Good Times Rolling

Just heard Let The Good Times Roll on Rock 101 today.  They play Cars fairly frequently.  I also listen to The Cars fairly regularly in the course of life.  Ha ha, no, I don't refer to the noise of vehicles passing by, or indeed to the sound of my own Honda's squeaky brakes.  I mean the group of which I speak in this particular posting.

Queen proclaimed that they were in love with their car.  Freddie famously 'loved' many... nouns.

Golden Ears

Golden Ears Bridge costing $5-million more a year than expected

I use the bridge often, and am always surprised at how low the traffic flow is.  Huge roadway, mostly empty.

Looking at some of the comments after this article, I'm bemused at people's rage about the toll.  Unless you are coming from Abbotsford, the fuel cost more than outweighs the toll cost.  Coming from Coquitlam or PoCo, same thing.  And those are the two closest cities across the river!  From Langley you'd either spend 2-3x the amount in gas dollars, or have to wait for the Albion ferry, which was more often than not, full.

The gas cost is one thing, but the time saving is astonishing.  From downtown Langley it's about 10-15 minutes, now, to either Pitt Meadows or Maple Ridge.  I can go from Abbotsford to PM or MR in about the same time taking Loughheed from Mission or the Golden Ears, so it isn't decisive.  But from Surrey or Langley--!  Having a business in Langley which requires frequent trips to Maple Ridge, this bridge is a dream-world for me.  Now I just need to register with TransLink....

Plum 350Z

The other afternoon I was zipping along when up ahead I saw this gorgeous plum-coloured 350Z.  I've seen these cars in many colours:  shiny light blue, yellow, silver.  But this is the first time that I understood on a gut level why these cars are so popular.  Somehow the plum added just the touch of class that my particular aesthetic sense desires.  The standard sporty colours make it seem 'light' to me, insufficiently weighty, frivolous.  The plum gave it more heft, and really allowed the gorgeous contours of the body to show to advantage.  At a red light I slowed close to the driver and complimented him on the vehicle.  I felt his wise colour judgment should be reinforced.

Sun & Dung II

My ride was excellent.  The weather was perfect; my jacket was open a few buttons in front, and the wind whistling in was just cooling enough to keep me perspiration-free without moving me down to cold.  Visibility was 100%.  Traffic was moderate, so even on the main arteries I took to get from Riding Area A to Riding Area B didn't cause any stop-and-go.

Sun & Dung

This weekend the sun is absolutely streaming down, and the area looks incredibly gorgeous. From time to time you get a spectacular waft of hot cow dung smell from farms in the area, which while nasty is also a healthy indicator of seasons, agriculture, etc. I'm going to be riding motorcycle later this afternoon, and you could hardly find a better day for it!

Apropos of nothing, Led Zeppelin's song "The Ocean" continues to rock the house.  That is all.

Happy May 5th Everyone!

From wikipedia:

Cinco de Mayo (Spanish for "fifth of May") is a holiday that commemorates the Mexican army's unlikely victory over French forces at theBattle of Puebla on May 5, 1862, under the leadership of Mexican General Ignacio Zaragoza SeguĂn.[1][2] While not an "obligatory federal holiday" in Mexico, it is celebrated primarily in the state of Puebla, and in the United States.[3][4]

Cinco de Mayo is not "an obligatory federal holiday" in Mexico, but rather a holiday that can be observed voluntarily.[5][6] While Cinco de Mayo has limited significance nationwide in Mexico, the date is observed in the United States (also voluntarily) and other locations around the world as a celebration of Mexican heritage and pride.[7] Cinco de Mayo is not Mexico's Independence Day,[8] which actually is September 16,[9] the most important national patriotic holiday in Mexico.[10]

Using The Wrist

Handling a steering wheel requires wrist control. In order to keep your spouse and kids safe when you drive through your city/town/village, you need to have full control of your car or truck. Keep your music low, too, so you aren't too distracted.

Vehicular Man's Laughter

Welcome to the Laughter Of Vehicular Man. "Man", here, is short for "mankind", and is used in the sense of 'humanity', and is not intended as having any reference to gender.

This blog is a scrapbook of fact & fantasy. What is written here is a mixture of reality and fiction created as entertainment and pastime. It may on occasion contain helpful information, but this occurs serendipitously, and is not the purpose of the work.
